Barnahus Tartu, Estonia opened on 26 September. This is the second service in Estonia, which was a pilot country in PROMISE 1 and a partner in PROMISE 2.
Childhood Haus Leipzig, Germany opened on 27 September. This is the first service to launch in Germany, which was a pilot country in PROMISE 1 and a partner in PROMISE 2.

UK’s first Child Houses for young victims of sexual abuse have launched

The Lighthouse team will work together to support children, young people and their families through their journey. We have specially trained medical professionals, specialist therapists, advocates, police officers and social workers on hand to help with children’s recoveries. And we make sure all the children we support receive all of this in one familiar and child-friendly place.

Swedish experts join roundtable in Germany on interdisciplinary teamwork

On 26 June 2018, a roundtable was organized on child-friendly and interdisciplinary approaches to suspicion, assistance and criminal case handling in cases of sexual abuse. PROMISE Experts Britta Bäumer from Barnahus Stockholm and Helena Asplund from Barnahus Linköping were on hand to give the Swedish perspective. The meeting was organized by the World Childhood Foundation Germany as part of the PROMISE 2 project.

Cutting ribbons in Hungary

Warmest congratulations to Hungary, a PROMISE Pilot Country, for its formal opening of the Barnahus in Szombathely. Among those pictured cutting the ribbon is Bragi Guðbrandsson, General Director of the Icelandic Agency for Child protection and also one of our esteemed experts on the PROMISE Project. There are several initiatives in Hungary that are working to establish child friendly centres. Maria Dr. Mária Lazáryné Illés, one of our pilot country representatives, was influential in formally opening this particular location.

Poland has 4 Barnahus in operation, supported by a national network

Poland has 4 Barnahus in operation, supported by a national network

The Polish Barnahus form a network coordinated by the Empowering Children Foundation. Two Barnahus are operated by the Empowering Children Foundation (Warsaw and Starogard, Gdanski) and two others are opreated by local NGO’s. Each Barnahus is supported by the Velux Foundation and local authorities, has funding secured for several years, and is committed to meeting the Barnahus Quality Standards.

Linköping inspires a European movement to establish Barnahus

Linköping inspires a European movement to establish Barnahus

At the meeting, HM Queen Silvia returned to Linköping, 11 years after inaugurating the first Barnahus in Sweden, to give her support to the European Barnahus movement. Her advocacy played a key role in the establishment of Barnahus in Sweden. The World Childhood Foundation, which The Queen founded, helped to establish Barnahus Linköping and continues to support the establishment of Barnahus around the world.
