European experience of Barnahus movement presented in Republic of Moldova

On 22 February 2018, the National Center for Child Abuse Prevention (NCCAP), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Justice, and due to the support of the World Childhood Foundation and the Council of Europe (CoE), organized the workshop “Multiagency response to violence against children through a friendly service for children victims based on Barnahus Model”.

Bragi Gudbrandsson,  international expert on child protection, member of the Lanzarote Committee – founder of the Barnahus service in Island, presented the Barhanus model and shared with over 50 key-professionals from Moldova the good international practice of Barnahus, especially among the Nordic countries. In addition, Mr. Gudbrandsson presented the PROMISE Barnahus Quality Standards.

The participants used the opportunity to discuss the importance of a friendly approach to children victims of abuse, both at the stage of collecting evidence in the criminal trial and also in the process of assistance and rehabilitation of these children.

The development of a friendly service for children victims of abuse, based on Barnahus model, is included as priority in the National Strategy for Child Protection 2014-2020.
